Three ways into Newark

Newark neighborhoods and their homes
- The Ironbound. East of Newark Penn Station. Dense blocks of two- and three-family houses and row homes, narrow streets, and busy restaurant strips around Ferry Street. The neighborhood is known for its Portuguese, Brazilian and Spanish-speaking community.
- Downtown. New high-rise rentals and older office buildings turned into apartments. Expect building rules, a loading area, an elevator booking and a COI.
- Forest Hill and the North Ward. Large older single-family homes and two-family houses on tree-lined streets. More rooms and more furniture, and sometimes a piano.
- The West and South Wards. Neighborhoods such as Vailsburg and Weequahic, with two- and three-family houses and apartment buildings. Porches and inside stairs.
- University Heights. Apartments near the colleges. Move dates bunch up at the start and end of each semester, so book early.
The Ironbound’s narrow streets
Ironbound streets are tight, parked on both sides and busy with deliveries for the shops and restaurants. A truck needs a spot close to your door, or the carry gets long. Tell us your cross streets, show us the block on a video estimate, and ask the city what you need to hold curb space on your date. Weekday mornings are usually calmer than evenings and weekends near the restaurant strips.
