A long town with three different moves

North Bergen runs a long way from north to south and changes as you go west. High-rises line Boulevard East along the cliff. Behind them, blocks of houses and apartment buildings spread across the ridge toward Kennedy Boulevard. Further west, garden complexes and commercial roads lead down to Tonnelle Avenue and the edge of the Meadowlands. We plan each kind of home differently.

1. A Boulevard East high-rise

Manhattan views, a front desk and the building rules that come with them: a reserved elevator, set move hours and a COI. We issue the COI and send it with your contract. The Lincoln Tunnel is close, so a move from Midtown can be quick; the elevator schedule usually sets the pace more than the drive does.

2. A house or two-family on a side street

Much of North Bergen is one-, two- and three-family houses. Expect front steps, inside stairs, a driveway or a busy curb, and often a basement or attic to empty. Basements hold more than people remember, so start sorting them early and show us what is down there on the estimate.

3. A garden apartment complex

Two- and three-story buildings around courtyards and parking lots. The truck can usually park near your building, but the carry from the lot to your door can be long, and there is rarely an elevator. Tell us which building and which entrance, and whether the complex office has move rules.

Close to the highways

North Bergen sits on Route 495, the approach to the Lincoln Tunnel, and close to the New Jersey Turnpike. For a long-distance move, that means a loaded truck reaches the interstate highways fast. Between leases? Store the gap

Renters often have a gap between move-out and move-in, and buyers wait on closing dates. We can pick up your things, keep them in short- or long-term storage through affiliated, clean, secure self-storage facilities, and deliver on a scheduled date. Ask us to put the storage and the delivery on the same written estimate, so you see the whole plan at once.

1. Find out whether your building or complex needs a COI, and ask for the exact wording.
2. For a house, clear the basement, garage and shed of what you will not take. Sell, donate or plan a separate trip for the rest.
3. Tell us where the truck can park: driveway, lot or street.
4. Decide what we pack and what you pack. We can deliver materials ahead of time.
5. Pack a first-day box with toilet paper, soap, towels, a kettle and chargers.
6. On the day, walk through every room and closet with the crew before the truck leaves.
