Hill, valley, highway
Ridgefield takes its name from its land. Locals split it into three parts: Ridgefield itself, in the valley and on the first hill; Morsemere in the north; and Ridgefield Heights on the second hill, at the far east side.
Most homes are houses. About four in ten are detached single-family houses, and nearly three in ten sit in two-family houses. About half the households own their home.
Roads that help, and one to take slowly
The New Jersey Turnpike, Broad Avenue (US 1/9), US 46, Route 93 and Route 5 all pass through Ridgefield. That makes truck access simple, but these roads crowd at rush hour, and we time the start of your move around that.
Headed to Edgewater? Route 5 runs from Broad Avenue east down the Palisades to River Road, with hairpin turns on the descent. The crew ties the load down for those curves.
Local history: in 1913, artists including Man Ray started the Grantwood colony here. Sketch Place, Studio Road and Art Lane keep its memory.
