Weehawken Movers by the Lincoln Tunnel

Close to Manhattan, but not simple

The New Jersey end of the Lincoln Tunnel is in Weehawken. On a clear road, a move from Midtown is one of the shortest trips across the Hudson. But tunnel traffic changes hour by hour, and the roads that climb from the tunnel to the top of the cliff are steep and busy. A good Weehawken move is mostly about timing.

Two Weehawkens

Down by the river. Newer condo and rental buildings, offices and the ferry landing sit on flat land along the Hudson. These buildings usually have garages or docks, service elevators and written move rules. Many ask for a COI before they let a mover in. We issue the COI and send it with your contract; we can also send it to management directly if you ask.

Up on the bluff. Older rowhouses, two-family homes and small apartment buildings line narrow streets, and apartment buildings stand along Boulevard East. The views are wide and the streets are tight. Inside stairs are most of the work.

Between the two levels, a few steep streets and public stairways connect the bottom to the top. A loaded truck takes the long way on the main roads, and we plan that drive too.

A Midtown-to-Weehawken day, step by step

1. Manhattan side. The crew is planned to reach your building’s service entrance at the start of your elevator slot. Furniture that will not fit the elevator comes apart first.
2. Loading. Boxes and furniture go on the truck. Labels by room make the unload quicker.
3. The tunnel. We aim to cross outside the peak hours. If the Manhattan building allows moves only in a set window, we plan around that window instead.
4. Weehawken side. The truck goes to the dock or the curb we agreed on during the estimate. If your new building gave you an elevator slot, the drive is timed for it.
5. Setup. Beds and tables go back together, and boxes go to the rooms on their labels.

Weehawken checklist

• Get the move rules from both buildings in writing, with the allowed hours.
• Send us both addresses with floor numbers and elevator details.
• Ask your riverfront building which names the COI must show.
• On the bluff, count the steps from the sidewalk to your door, inside and out.
• Book early if your date is at the end of the month, when many leases turn over.
• Pack a first-night box: sheets, towels, a lamp, a kettle, phone chargers.
