Moving into the city takes paperwork first
Leaving a New Jersey house or tower for New York City is a short drive and a long checklist. City buildings, especially co-ops and condos, often want everything settled before a mover can enter: a move-in approval, a COI with the exact names they give you, a booked service elevator and a time slot. Many allow moves only on weekdays, inside set hours. Plan the paperwork before you plan the packing.
Your NYC building checklist
- Ask management for the move-in rules in writing: days, hours, elevator, service entrance.
- Ask exactly what the COI must say, and send us that wording. We issue the COI and send it with your contract; if you prefer, we send it to the building directly.
- Co-op buyers: wait for board approval before you lock the moving date.
- Book the service elevator. If there is only one, ask whether other moves share the day.
- Tell the doorman or super the date and the time the truck arrives.
- Walk-up? Count the flights and measure the tightest turn.
Where the truck stops in the city
Most city blocks have no driveway and little free curb. The truck has to stop close to your entrance, and that takes planning. On the estimate we look at the block, the entrance you will use and the hours when the street is calmer. Show us the street on a video call if you can. A shorter carry from the truck to the elevator shortens the whole day.
Which crossing
From Jersey City, Hoboken, Kearny, Harrison or Newark, the Holland Tunnel is usually the way into lower Manhattan and on to Brooklyn. From Weehawken, Union City, West New York, North Bergen and Edgewater, the Lincoln Tunnel leads into Midtown. From Fort Lee and the Bergen County towns, the George Washington Bridge is usually quicker for upper Manhattan, the Bronx and much of Queens. Moving to Brooklyn
Our trucks start in Brooklyn, so a Brooklyn delivery ends close to where the day began. Brownstones in Park Slope and the neighborhoods around it, walk-ups with narrow stairs, new towers along the waterfront, and houses further out in the borough each need their own plan. If you are moving to Brighton Beach, Sheepshead Bay or anywhere else where Russian is spoken at home, you can talk through the move with us in Russian: the phone is answered in English and Russian, and our crews speak both.

What we do on the day
- Load in New Jersey: furniture comes apart where needed, and boxes go on by room.
- Cross on the planned route, timed for the city building’s elevator slot.
- Unload through the service entrance or the front door, as the building requires.
- Put furniture back together and place boxes in the rooms you name.

Do you bring the COI my NYC building needs?
Yes. We issue it and send it with your contract. Send us the building’s wording first, so the names are right the first time.
My building only allows weekday moves. Can you do a Tuesday?
Yes. We move on the days your building allows, and weekends and holidays cost nothing extra when the building permits them.
Can you move me to Long Island or Westchester instead?
Yes. We serve all five boroughs, Long Island and Westchester.
