One hilltop, two kinds of move
Cliffside Park sits on top of the Palisades, just south of Fort Lee and high above Edgewater. Its eastern edge is the cliff itself, and a row of high-rise condos lines up along it, facing Manhattan across the river. Walk a few blocks west and the town becomes a grid of two-family houses, small apartment buildings and the shops of Anderson Avenue.
A move here depends on which of those two places you live in. The towers are about paperwork and elevator time. The houses are about stairs, tight turns and a truck on a crowded street.
A bit of local history: some of the cliff-top towers stand on land that was once the Palisades Amusement Park, which closed decades ago.

Getting here from New York
From Midtown and lower Manhattan, a truck usually takes the Lincoln Tunnel and then drives north along the ridge. From upper Manhattan and the Bronx, the George Washington Bridge is usually closer. The upstairs unit and the crowded curb
In a two-family house, the tenant upstairs has the harder move. A narrow inside staircase, a turn at the landing and a front door that opens straight onto the stairs slow everything down. Before moving day, measure the width of the staircase and your largest pieces. Bed frames, dressers with mirrors and sectional sofas usually come apart. We take them apart and put them back together at the new place.
Inland streets are parked on both sides. Ask your neighbors to leave space in front of the house on the morning of the move, and ask the borough whether you need anything to reserve the curb. A short carry from the door to the truck makes the whole day faster.
