Edgewater and Fort Lee sit right next to the George Washington Bridge. That makes Connecticut closer than many people think. All Edgewater Movers plans moves from waterfront high-rises to Connecticut homes, and from Connecticut back to the Palisades.
We move you between the NJ Hudson Waterfront and Connecticut. We do not do moves that start and end inside Connecticut.
The truck route from the waterfront
Many drivers in Edgewater and Fort Lee head north on the Palisades Interstate Parkway. A moving truck cannot. Commercial vehicles are banned on that parkway. Our guide to Palisades Parkway truck rules explains the details.
So the truck takes the George Washington Bridge. On the New York side, I-95 runs across the Bronx as the Cross Bronx Expressway. Then it follows the shore through Westchester into Connecticut. The Hutchinson River Parkway and the Merritt Parkway are closed to trucks and commercial vehicles, so the truck stays on I-95.
For inland towns like Danbury, or when the bridge is backed up, the truck can go north through Bergen County, cross the Mario Cuomo Bridge and use I-287 or I-684 from there. We choose the route when we see the traffic for your day.
Moving out of a waterfront high-rise
Many waterfront moves start in a tall building. These buildings have rules, and missing one can cost you your moving day.
- Certificate of insurance. The building names what the COI must say. We provide COI. Send us the request a week or more ahead.
- Freight elevator. Book it early. Ask how long your time slot is and whether it can run late.
- Loading dock. Ask where the truck can park and how big a truck the dock can take.
Our freight elevator and COI guide has a full checklist. On the Connecticut end, tell us about the driveway, the stairs and the front walk.
Your estimate and your rights
A move from New Jersey to Connecticut crosses a state line. We are A & A Alliance Moving Inc, U.S. DOT No. 967970, MC-432549, and we are FMCSA-authorized to carry household goods between states.
Before the move, you get a written estimate and the FMCSA booklet "Your Rights and Responsibilities When You Move." The booklet explains your estimate, how your things are covered and how to file a claim. On moving day, you sign a bill of lading. It is the contract for your move, so read it before you sign. See our page on long-distance moves from NJ for more.
Connecticut towns on the I-95 line
From the GWB, the shore towns come first: Greenwich, Stamford, Darien, Norwalk and Westport. Fairfield, Bridgeport and New Haven are farther up I-95.
Common questions
Can the truck use the Palisades Parkway to go north?
No. Commercial vehicles are banned there. The truck takes the George Washington Bridge and I-95, or another truck route.
Do you move people from Connecticut to Edgewater or Fort Lee?
Yes. We load at your Connecticut home and deliver to your new waterfront building. We handle the COI and the elevator plan on this side too.
Do you do moves between two Connecticut towns?
No. Every move we do has one end in New Jersey or New York.
